It is proven that a website’s loading time and conversion rate are directly linked, so it’s hugely important to keep your website speedy! After all, if a potential customer has to wait too long for your website to load they will simply go elsewhere.
If you’re finding your website is starting to lag and could do with a bit of a speeding up, fear not, as we’ve listed a few tips below:
Uninstall old plugins
If your website is built through a CMS such as WordPress you should definitely be uninstalling any old plugins you’re no longer using. Every time you or a visitor loads a page on your website, each active plugin will cause extra requests to process which all add to the loading time. Try to remove any plugins that aren’t absolutely necessary.
Optimise your images
Yes, images are great and really help make your website’s content appealing to potential customers, but make sure you take care to upload your images at the correct size. Images that are too large (in terms of dimensions) need to be resized by your customers’ browsers before they are displayed, which adds to the page’s loading time. Images should also be compressed before uploading to keep their file size down!
Efficient home page
Focus on keeping your home page as efficient at possible. Whilst it is tempting to showcase everything your business can do on your home page to draw visitors in, if it’s too overloaded it will take longer to load. Focus on only your most important services or content, and use that to tempt visitors onto other pages of your website.
Consider adding caching plugins to your website. By serving pre-loaded copies of your website’s pages or content to visitors you can dramatically reduce the loading time for them.
Upgrade your web hosting
As your website grows, you may need to consider moving your website to a more powerful server to enable it to run more efficiently. It’s worth doing the research to see which providers can offer the best performance vs cost!
