Is your website mobile-friendly? With Google’s imminent changes arriving in 2018 it simply has to be!
The number of websites being viewed from mobile devices rather than PCs is constantly rising. Indeed, it’s predicted that by the end of 2018 that mobile devices will account for 79% of global internet usage (source).
Back in 2015 Google began taking into account how ‘responsive’ your website is (i.e. how well it adapts for viewing on mobile devices) into their algorithm when determining where to place it in their search results. Although your website’s search result ranking is still largely based on how it looks and functions on a PC, if Google deems it to not be mobile-friendly, a little message is displayed next to your website’s ranking in its search results and it suffers a slight penalty.
This is the important bit – in 2018 this is all going to change!!!
When Google implement their new search algorithm, your website will be ranked primarily on how it looks and performs on a mobile device.
With this forthcoming change the speed of your website on a mobile device is insanely important – slower websites will be deemed less mobile-friendly by Google and be placed lower in their search result rankings.
There are so many ways you can help keep down the load time for the mobile version of your website, such as compressing and optimising all of your images to keep their filesize down, and removing resource-heavy parts of your website’s design if they are non-essential.
This is a process that Green Dragon Design can help with, and would heavily recommend. For more information please give us a call on 01822 259345 or send us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don’t be caught out by Google’s imminent changes – make sure your website is as mobile-friendly as it can be!
